John 6 records a very captivating event for us. If we are honest, this passage has some very harsh things to say about both the nature of our individual faith in Jesus and our tendencies as a youth or a modern church. We see Jesus finally gathering unto himself a large following and it seems like things are improving. This crowd seems ready to usher in “the Kingdom” and excitement is rising. Jesus speaks to his followers and within the span of only about 20 verses, the scene changes from 5000 zealous men alongside many more women and children to a final number of 12 meager, disappointed and confused disciples.
