Conquered

Dima-and-Vika - Conquered
Dima Sobovoy

Our group consists of high school students from various schools in the Vancouver/Portland area and Clark College. This diverse group of young people with numerous cultural backgrounds and differing religious experiences in the past are unified in one passion: the Lord Jesus Christ. Our goal is reflected in our group identity, “CONQUERED.”

This name pursues a two-fold meaning and message. A follower of Jesus is one who’s been conquered by Him, subdued by His love, and submitted to His lordship. This is someone who no longer belongs to himself but rather to the One who saved him. However, this conquering doesn’t happen by conventional methods of strength and wits enforcing their rule. No, the Savior conquers us by the display of His love, shown at Calvary. It is his Personage and work on the cross that conquers our love, enslaves our wills, and subdues our focus to Him. And that is why we are “CONQUERED.”

The central piece of every Friday night is God’s Word. We don’t gather to just study the Bible but to have the Truth of the Bible transform our minds and lives. The most effective way we found to do this is not to listen to another sermon but rather spend our time discussing the sermons we’ve heard and seeking to apply them to our lives. Singing and praying together is an important part of our time together as well. At the end of our corporate discussion we break up into groups of guys and groups of girls to have a closer and more personal time in fellowship and prayer. Our time ends with people intermingling with one another, meeting new people, catching up with each other, and making plans for the weekend ahead.
