Enslaved

This is a group of middle school students in 7th and 8th grade. We are the youngest section of the Upstream youth ministry, and being the youngest there is a sense in which we are the wildest group. Your first impression when you walk in may be that you have arrived at the zoo but that is only a first impression. With proper guidance, the energy is directed toward a meaningful discussion and interaction with the truth that we hear.

One of the main goals of our group is to help students think biblically about the issues that they face. The primary issue is their state before God. That is why the group is called “Enslaved.” Scripture leaves no doubt as to who we are by nature and by choice – we are slaves of sin (Rom. 6:16). The Gospel is the liberating power that introduces us to a new, different, and joyful kind of slavery – the slavery to God and to righteousness. Therefore the question is: whose slave would you rather be?
